Past Lives and Saved Records in 1 in 8 Billion

This page explains one part of the game. It is an independent copy, not the official site. The life itself starts on this language’s homepage.

Where the list is

Finished lives show on the homepage under Past lives, once at least one has ended in this browser. The list is not a page of its own inside the game. This article only explains it.

Start a life worth keeping

A life in progress is separate

Continue continues a life that has not ended, from one8b.save.v3. Past lives is the list of lives that already ended. Closing the tab does not by itself move a running life into that list.

See again

See again is on a row only when a snapshot for that life is available. Without it, the row can still show the name, place, age, and cause. The hint on the homepage talks about the 10 most recent lives. A row with no button cannot be reopened.

500 summaries, 10 snapshots

The summary list stops at 500. The recent full snapshots in one8b.past.v1 stop at 10. IndexedDB and the original game’s own version can change whether more snapshots exist. Do not read 500 as 500 lives you can play back.

Three stores in this browser. A longer list is not the same as a life you can reopen.
KeyOn this copy
one8b.save.v3The life still in progress, including one that has been drawn and not started. Continue uses this.
one8b.lives.v1Short records of finished lives, up to 500. The list can be longer than the lives you can reopen.
one8b.past.v1Recent full snapshots, up to 10 in this store. See again appears only when a snapshot for that life is available.

Where it is kept

The game tells you the records stay in this browser. An in-app browser, such as one inside another app, keeps a separate store from Safari or Chrome. A home-screen icon can also be separate from the browser you started in.

Another phone or browser

A new browser starts empty. Move my lives is the original game’s transfer control. This independent site does not run that server, so the button should not be treated as a guaranteed move. Private browsing can discard the store when the window closes.

Deleted means deleted

Tidy up the records leads to Delete all. The game says a deleted life cannot be brought back. Clear the site’s saved data in the browser and the same thing happens. Take a copy of anything you need before you delete it.

If the list is gone

Check that you are in the same browser, not a private window, and not an in-app page that keeps its own store. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac Safari, the game warns that the browser may clear the site if you do not visit for more than seven days. Another language’s homepage on this site is still this origin, but a different device is not.

Questions about records

The ending itself is explained on the results page.

Are all 500 lives fully replayable?

No. 500 is the summary cap. Reopening needs a snapshot, and the recent snapshot store holds 10.

Does a memorial bring the life back?

A memorial needs the original server. This site does not run it, and a deleted local life is still gone.

Can I recover a cleared browser?

No. Once the site data is gone, this copy has nothing to restore it from.
