What you do here

Right now, about four babies are born every second. This site picks one of those births. Where you are born, and to whom, you do not choose. You then live that one life to its end: school, work, family, health, and the country you happen to be in.

The draw uses public statistics for 172 countries and territories. You can weight it by babies born now, or by the people alive now. You can also live in today’s world, a past world, or a projected one. A life is a simulation. The person is not real, and neither is the story.

What stays on your device

Playing is free. An unfinished life, your settings, and the lives you have already finished stay in this browser. They are not an account, and they do not follow you to another phone unless you move them yourself.

You can sign in with an email code or Google if you want a receipt, a pass, or a life kept beyond the free days. The email is used to sign you in and to send that receipt. It is not shown on a shared life or a memorial.

Keeping a life

A life you finish can sit in the life archive and its memorial for 3 days at no charge. After that, keeping ends unless you pay. Payments are handled by Stripe.

There are three ways to keep a life. Just this life is a one-time payment of US$6.90: that life stays in the archive and the memorial, and its keepsakes can be saved. Keeper is US$29 a month and holds up to 8 lives at once. Unlimited is US$55 a month and does not cap the number. The price is shown again before you pay. You can cancel a subscription any time. Lives already kept stay kept.

Within 30 days of the day you paid, you can ask for a refund without giving a reason. The details are on the Terms page.

How the site stays free

The simulation itself does not require a payment. Google AdSense may show ads, and Google Analytics measures how the site is used. Both are described in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy.

Shared lives and memorials are public on purpose, and they are not a place for your real name, a school, an address, or a way to contact you. Posts that include those, or that other people report, can be taken down.
